Lying at the southern edge of Sapa about 35km from town, Thanh Phu Village with Nam Sai Village and Nam Cang Village are among the most remote villages and home to the Tay Minority, one of the earliest known minorities in Vietnam.

A tough trail which takes about 6-7 hours walk from Ban Ho to Thanh Phu Village will offers fabulous scenery and a chance to explore, meet and witness the current life of the Tay in the villages. On the way, visitors can see vast valleys with streams winding their ways in a poetic surrounding.

The village consists of about 10 to 15 families, most of Tay minority. Tay people now live in villages of mixed ethnic groups, enter into mixed marriages and leave their traditional settlements to work in other areas. They have adopted other elements of Kinh culture and of the Tai speaking people, are considered the most integrated into main stream Vietnamese culture. Their traditional dress is made from indigo dyed cotton, plain and with little embroidery.
