Long Tien Pagoda Festival
24th of the 3rd lunar month
The Long Tien, Pagoda was built quite recently, in 1941, at the foot of Bai Tho (Poem) Mountain. It is the largest pagoda in Ha Long City.
Some locals say that every day is a festive day at the Long Tien Pagoda. Foreign and dometic tourists come to sightsee, while the faithful, burn incense and recite prayer to Buddha; in particular, they arrive in greater number on the 1st and 15th days of each lunar month and fot Tet holiday.
Cua Ong Temple Festival
2nd day of the 1st lunar month until the end of the 3rd lunar month
Cua Ong Temple is one of the famous remains of the Tran Dynasty in the North-East region of Vietnam. The Cua Ong Temple is dedicated to Tran Quoc Tang, the third son of Tran Hung Dao, who defeated many enemies and brought peace to the region.Hoang Cau, a local general who fought bravely against invaders, is also honoured there.
Tien Cong Temple Festival
7th day of the 1st lunar Festiaval
The Tien Cong Temple is located in the village of Cam La on Ha Nam Island, Yen Hung District. It is devoted to the cult of the founding fathers, who built the dikes that created the populated island of to day.
Every year, the festival begins on the 7th day of the 1st lunar month, which according to legend was the day, over 500 year a go, that the Founding Fathers discovered an underground spring on the island.
For the occasion, dignitaries present themselves to the founding fathers at the Tien Cong Temple, who then coose four elderly men to assist them in the ground breakong ritual.
Yen Tu Pagoda Fetival
10th day of the 1st lunar month until the end of the 3rd month
The mountainous region of Yen Tu has been a centre of Buddhism for many centuries. It is also where the Buddhist sect of truc Lam originated. Yen Tu is located in Thuong Yen Cong Mommune, approximately 15km from Uong Bi Town.
In the wide assortment of remains in Yen Tu, there are 11 pagodas and close to 100 shines and towers. Those participating in the ceremonies not only express their devotion to Buddha and commemorate a heroic epispde of the country’s history, but thet also have an opportunity to admire the beautiful land-scapes of this mountainous area.
Bach Dang Festival
9th day of the 4th lunar month
The Bach Dang River has been etched into the memories of the local people as the site where memories of the local people as the site where several national heroes fought against foreign invaders, these national heroes included Le Hoan (981), Ngo Quyen, who planted sharp wooden stakes into the riverbed to defeat a Chinese invasion force (938), as well as Tran Hung Dao and other famous general of the Tran Dynasty (1288) who repeated the same strategy.
Tra Co Village Festival
30th of the 5th lunar month – 6th of the 6th lunar month
Tra Co Village is located 8km from Mong Cai. Its takes place annually to mommemorate the founder of the village who built a communal houve over 60 years ago. Quan He, a leader of the peastants who rose up during the Le Trinh period, is also worshipped there. On the 25th day of the 5th lunar month, a procession of boats sails from Tra Co to Do Son, the ancestors’ native land. On the 30th day of the 5th lunar month, the boat return to Tra Co.
Quang Lan Temple Festival
18th of the 6th lunar month
The Quan Lan Temple is located in the central area of the ancient Van Don Harbor. The Festival is organized yearly on the 18th day of the 6th lunar month, but the whole celebrations lats from the 10th to the 20th. The festival is organized to commemorate the victory against the Mongol invaders in 1288, as well as the feats of Tran Khanh Du, a famous Tran general. There are also prayers for a good “harvest” from the sea.
The Quan Lan Temple Festival bears characteristics of a traditional village festival, but is particularly grandiose, expressing the military spirit of the Vietnamese.
