48h “Getting Lost” in Sapa

Sapa town, located 376 km from the capital of Hanoi to the northwest, is the destination preferred by many people to visit as well as to relax. You can spend two weekend days to visit and rest in this beautiful town.

Saturday: Depart, explore the town of Sa Pa

6am: Depart from Hanoi towards Noi Bai – Lao Cai highway.

Note: Cars can only go with a maximum speed of 100 km/h on the Noi Bai – Lao Cai highway. The path of new highway has 2 petrol stations, one is the entrance to Hanoi and the other is located at the intersection with the road to Yen Bai.

Sapa

11am: Have lunch in the town of Sapa

1pm: Discover Sapa town

Stone church: is located right in the town center. The church, along with two other works constructed by the French including Chu Cau (Hoang Lien hotel nowadays) and the former District Commissioner (Lao Cai Tourist Information Centre nowadays) form the adequacy of French architecture in the mountain town. In front of the church is the large square, the site of the leisure activities of people in the area.

Ham Rong mountain resort: Tourists can immerse in the beautiful nature here and have panoramic view of Sapa town from a height of 1,800 m. Fares to visit: 70,000 VND / person.

3pm: Visit Cat Cat village

Cat Cat, the village of Mong ethnic group, is located 2 km from the town center. It also retains traditional handicraft jobs of making brocade and crafting jewelry from silver, bronze. Fares to visit: VND 40,000 / person.

4pm: Visit Bac (Silver) waterfall

Located 12km from the town of Sa Pa, Bac waterfall has an altitude of over 200 meters, and is the upstream of Muong Hoa stream in the foot of O Quy Ho Pass. From high, water falling down with white foam which looks like flowers. This is an attractive destination for tourists to Sapa. Fares to visit: VND 10,000/ adults and VND 5,000/ children.

5pm: Return to Sapa town

Along the road from Silver waterfalls returning to Sa Pa, there are many people selling chayote fruit picked directly in the garden with the price of 3,000 VND / kg. In addition, there are also many kinds of plants and flowers for which you can buy.

Thac bac

Stopping at the roadside and seeing mountains is also a good idea as you move to the town. If you’re lucky, you may catch large clouds hugging the mountain forming a beautiful natural picture.

6:30pm: Have dinner in Sapa town

The menu of delicacies Sa Pa is plentiful. You can choose fried chayote vegetable, roasted piglet, grilled fish, trout – the famous specialty in the mountain town. Salmon in Sapa has delicious meat, red color, charming sweetness and is processed into many different dishes such as sashimi, fried, hotpot or fish salad … These dishes are served in every restaurant in the town.

Barbeque is also a delicacy that you should enjoy in Sapa. The BBQ stalls here have a varied menu including beef roll, fried salmon, mushrooms, chicken, bird, corn, potatoes … Price of 1 barbeque skewer ranges from 10,000 to 20,000 VND.

7:30pm: Stroll around the town

At night, the town of Sapa becomes more crowed. Visitors flock to routes close to the stone church to buy souvenirs and ethnic brocade. You can choose a number of specific items such as towels, brocade bags… then visit the cafes or bars such as O ‘Chau Cafe, The Hmong Sisters, The Hill Station …

Note: In the evening, temperature in Sa Pa is low; therefore,  you should take a jacket and flats or sneakers to walk more easily and comfortably.
