Ham Ho, a Magical Beauty
Visiting Binh Dinh, in addition to the legendary beauty of the famous 7 clusters of Cham towers, coming to Tay Son district, visitors will admire the subtle beauty of the landscapes of Ham Ho.
With a total area 42,3ha, Ham Ho resort is located in a valley surrounded by mountains on all four sides. According to legend, thousands of years ago, the downstream of Kon river – Kut River was always threatened by the drought. In the most intense drought day, witnessing the famine of the villagers, God Rain created rivers and lakes to save creatures. Since then, the name of Ham Ho has been formed, rooted from the ritual of “call the wind and rain” to pray for rain.
People here also explain that, there is a high waterfall of about six, seven meters falling into a wide stone cellar, emitting a loud sound as the warning for rowers of the upcoming danger, so it is called Ham Ho.
Ham Ho has charming natural landscape whose the highlights is the river stretching about 3km. In the river, there are giant granite boulders bearing unique shapes such as Bong (Ball) island, Da Doi (Double Stone) islet, Chuong (Bell) island, Da Thanh islet, Go, Da Ban Co isles… In particular, in the left bank of the river, there is Ham Ho. In rainy season, fish swim to the upstream to give birth and have to pass Ham Ho waterfall. Legend has it that, in the past, annual fish gathered here for rafting, the fish passing the falls successfully would turn into a dragon; therefore, Ham Ho is also known as Ca Bay, or Vu Mon waterfall. Going to Ham Ho, visitors not only get immersed in the majestic mountain views, but also enjoy the marvels of nature right in the riverbed. With a width of approximatey 30 meters, the riverbed is scattered natural marbles of many shapes.
In dry season, the clear blue sky day, when the morning sun rays shining down, the granite blocks are colorfully sparkling, glowing like a thousand diamonds boasting on blue water. Each pillar brings a separate shape, is the great foundation for the imagination of visitors; large rocks, small rocks, square, circular blocks, there are clusters which look elephants taking a bath, or a group of blocks looking like galloping horses …
If having the opportunity to take a boat excursions along the river, visitors will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the magical world of nature. Exotic scenery here is started with the dam of cool clear water. Passing the dam, going up the river a path, visitors will experience a steep cliff walls with the traditional name of Hon Da Thanh (Stone Walls).
Conversely to the upstream, the greater the slope is, the stronger water runs. Each segment is divided into small waterfalls, the water rumbling echoing off the cliff, the scenery becomes more fanciful. The space is full of the voice and singing of different kinds of bird, the scenery is both magical and lively.
In addition to admiring magical beauty of the nature, visitors also have the opportunity to relive the glorious days of history. In this place, more than two hundred years ago, famous general Vo Van Dung trained the soldiers then joined forces with the leaders of the Tay Son to defeat the enemy. Also in this place, hero Mai Xuan Thuong built bases to fight agaist French invaders. This scenic spot; therefore, has a spiritual sense of historical evidence.
